Activities

No holiday to the Cairns region is complete without spending a few days on the Atherton Tablelands.  At around 600m above sea level, the Tablelands is always a few degrees cooler than Cairns, which is especially welcome in the summer months.  The natural beauty of the rainforest, crater lakes and waterfalls, makes the Atherton Tableland a "Must Do" for all visitors to Tropical North Queensland.

Lake Tinaroo is a haven for water skiers, sailors, fisherman and wildlife watchers.  With no crocodiles, sharks or stingers, the lake is safe for all water sports all year round.  Boating, swimming, water-skiing, sailing, canoeing and wind surfing are some of the activities to be enjoyed on this beautiful lake.  The resort offers a complete package of activities with expert tuition in a wide array of activities, from sail boarding, water skiing or mountain biking to fishing, wildlife viewing or spotlighting, plus much more.

The lake is stocked with sport fish, including the prized barramundi.  A fibreglass cast of the world record barra, caught in Lake Tinaroo, resides over the bar at "The Lodge". Those in the know say there are even bigger ones waiting to be caught.  Many other species of fish and red claw are caught all year round in this stocked impoundment, licences available at the office.

A diverse variety of bird life can be found throughout the area with over three hundred species recorded. Dancing Brolgas and Sarus Cranes are common in the near vicinity.  Possums, tree climbing kangaroos and platypus provide spectacular viewing with photographic opportunities, early mornings and evenings, into spotlit wonderland nights.  For more active pursuits there are walks around the lake shores and surrounding hillsides and mountain biking.

The carefully documented self drive tours ensure guests are able to maximise their holiday experience. Centrally located, Tinaroo Lake Resort is an ideal base for day or shorter trips to a host of Tablelands attractions and experiences. In less than forty-five minutes all towns and places of interest can be reached, from lakeside picnic areas such as Lake Eacham, to historic Yungaburra and its world renown Curtain Fig Tree.  Picturesque waterfalls and dense rain forest walks all await the adventurer.  Special tour categories include farm and plantation visits, historic trails and WW2 landmarks.  Every weekend the Tablelands’ Market Circuit offers bargains with fresh locally grown produce and includes the world renowned Yungaburra Markets, the fourth Saturday of each month, as well as the regular Kuranda Markets.
